It's that time again, folks. That time when we make resolutions for the new year.
Typically, these include losing weight or finding a better job or being more patient with our children or... I'm bored just writing this. So let's do something a little different this year. Lets really make 2014 amazing. And we can start with these 9 must do's for the new year.
Learn a new language.
Knowledge, kids! You should never stop learning and a new language is an excellent place to start. Nothing makes you look better than being the only one in the room that a new business partner - or gorgeous tourist at the bar - can understand.
Make an unlikely friend.
This world is full of all kinds of people; different cultures, different values, different lifestyles. Step out of your comfort zone and get to know someone that lives differently than you. You'll be surprised by how much you'll learn.
Take a chance!
Tell your crush you're into him. Start your small business. Ask for a raise at work. There's always something in your life that's worth the risk and there's no time like the present to make it happen.
Fall in love.
Often.
Try a new look.
A shorter hairstyle, that outfit you've been eying but "isn't you", even a trendy shade of nail polish that you never thought you could pull off. Just try something new. You might be surprised.
Appreciate every day.
My dad and I were joking around one night about what to get family members for Christmas. When he told me he didn't want anything, I protested. I asked "don't you want to wake up Christmas morning to a surprise under the tree?" His answer - "Just waking up in the morning is surprise enough for me!" Of course, he was joking. But it kind of made me think. Who knows how many mornings we have left? What if today is the last one? Take a minute every day to appreciate the fact that you woke up this morning. After all, how many other people didn't?
Do something impulsive.
Splurge on that fancy watch you love or take a weekend to visit a friend in another city. Sometimes - if not most of the time - the best things in life are unplanned.
Learn to cook.
Life is short and you've had enough ramen.
Travel to a faraway place.
This past summer, I spent time in Paris and London. I've dreamed of visiting those two cities for over a decade and I finally got my chance. But a decade is too long to wait! If there's one piece of advice I could give to 20 year old me, it would definitely be to stop spending your money on silly things and use it to travel instead! There's a big world out there just dying to be explored. Don't keep it waiting!

This is 2014, kids. Let's make it shine.
I agree with the watch part.
